Payment gateway vs payment processor vs checkout: what actually changes on Shopify?
These terms are often used like they mean the same thing. They do not. Knowing which layer you are changing makes it much easier to choose the right Shopify payment setup.

The simple model
Checkout
The page and flow where the buyer enters shipping and payment details and confirms the order.
Gateway
The technology that securely passes payment information into the payment system or provider.
Processor
The payment infrastructure/provider relationship that handles authorization, settlement and related payment operations.
Merchant account/platform account
The business account through which the merchant is approved to receive processed funds.
Where Shopify Payments fits
Shopify Payments bundles much of this into the Shopify experience, which is why setup can feel simpler than connecting a separate provider.
Where Voss + Whop fit
Voss is the external checkout software layer. The merchant connects their own Whop account for the payment-processing side. Shopify remains the storefront and order/fulfillment system.
Keep the store you built. Add the checkout you want.
Connect Shopify and Whop, test the full flow, then choose when you want to send live traffic through it.
