Shopify payment gateway not working? Find out whether the problem is the store, the provider or the checkout.

First checks
- Confirm an active primary payment provider exists.
- Check Shopify Payments or third-party provider account status.
- Look for verification requests or restrictions.
- Confirm shipping rates appear before the payment step.
- Review abandoned checkout or order-timeline error details.
If only one payment method fails
Shopify's current troubleshooting guidance says a single failing method usually points to that specific provider or wallet rather than the whole checkout.
If you decide to change providers
Fixing a technical issue and changing payment architecture are different decisions. If the current provider is no longer suitable, compare another supported provider or a separate external checkout.
