External checkout launch checklist

Before you switch your Shopify checkout, test these 10 things.

An external checkout can look perfect and still lose orders if totals, payment methods or order syncing fail. Use this checklist to test the complete buying journey before sending live traffic.

What counts as ready to launch?

A complete test starts on your Shopify storefront and ends with exactly one correct paid Shopify order. Opening the payment screen by itself is not enough. The payment account must be eligible for the products and countries you sell to, and you should be able to fulfill, reconcile and refund an order.

Keep native checkout available until tests pass

Do not switch all customers simply because setup says “connected.” Verify the entire flow for your actual catalog, countries, shipping rules and devices first.

1. Check the payment account and business eligibility

Confirm your connected Whop business has the correct legal information and is permitted to process the products and regions you sell in. A connected account is not a guarantee of approval, payouts or availability of every payment method.

2. Add real cart variants and quantities

Start from a normal Shopify product page. Try a single product, several products, a variant change, and two units of the same variant. Confirm the checkout shows correct names, pictures, quantities, currency and totals.

3. Test delivery addresses, shipping and smaller orders

Use delivery addresses in every important shipping market. Check the available shipping choices, shipping price and final amount before payment. Include a low-priced product whose item price may fall below a processor minimum before shipping is calculated.

4. Test discounts and multi-currency

Check valid and invalid discount codes, shipping discounts if your store offers them, and each important shopper currency. The amount charged must match the final verified total displayed to the buyer.

5. Complete a real permitted payment test

Use a supported test environment first. Before launch, validate an appropriately authorized live transaction if available for your setup. Check that confirmation matches the payment processor and never assume a closed payment window means the payment succeeded.

6. Verify one matching paid Shopify order

Open Shopify Admin and compare products, variants, quantities, shipping, discounts, address, currency and paid total. Refresh once to confirm a single checkout did not create duplicate orders. An interrupted sync must be recoverable rather than charging the buyer again.

7. Check failure and 3D Secure paths

Run a declined-payment test and a 3D Secure test if supported by your test setup. Close or cancel the authentication flow deliberately. The result should be clear to the shopper; a failed or canceled payment should not create a paid order.

8. Validate refunds and support reconciliation

Confirm that your team can identify the Whop payment, corresponding Shopify order and refund status. Test supported refund workflows in a controlled way. Keep records that allow you to investigate an interrupted confirmation or sync.

9. Check Meta and TikTok Purchase tracking

Use each ad platform's test-event tools. Confirm that purchase value and currency match the paid order, that the Purchase event happens after payment confirmation and that browser/server duplicates are deduplicated correctly where both paths exist. A pixel firing isn't proof attribution is accurate.

10. Repeat on mobile and inside ad browsers

Complete the purchase flow on a phone, not only a desktop browser. If you buy ads on Instagram, Facebook or TikTok, test the shopping flow from those in-app browsers too. Verify how shoppers recover from refreshing, switching apps or returning from authentication.
