Voss Checkout

How Shopify + Whop checkout works when you keep the store but move the payment

The clean mental model is simple: Shopify can remain the system for your storefront, products and fulfillment, while a separate checkout charges the buyer through the Whop account you connect. Voss Checkout is one implementation of that model.

This is not the same as selecting a normal Shopify payment provider

Voss does not add Whop inside Shopify's Payment providers screen. Instead, the buyer moves from the Shopify cart to a branded Voss checkout. The payment is processed through the Whop account connected to Voss, and the paid order is then written back to Shopify.

That distinction matters because Shopify documents its own supported payment-provider model separately, including potential third-party transaction fees. Always check your current Shopify plan and billing terms before moving live traffic.

A safe setup sequence

  1. Connect your Whop account. Use the Whop business that should receive the checkout payments.
  2. Connect the Shopify store. Voss guides you through creating the store-owned Shopify app and entering its credentials.
  3. Confirm store details. Check currency, policy links and the permanent .myshopify.com address.
  4. Choose the checkout domain. A custom domain is optional; if you add one, finish DNS before treating it as live.
  5. Configure tracking. Add Meta and/or TikTok tracking if your ads depend on purchase attribution.
  6. Run a test order. Confirm payment behavior and that the matching paid order reaches Shopify correctly before sending live traffic.

Fees you should check separately

There can be three different cost layers: your Shopify plan and any Shopify fees that apply to your setup, Whop's payment-processing fees, and the checkout software fee. Voss currently charges 0.5% per processed order with no Voss setup fee and no monthly Voss fee.

Shopify's own help center says third-party transaction fees can apply when transactions are processed through third-party providers. Your exact treatment depends on your plan and configuration, so verify the current Shopify terms rather than assuming an external checkout removes Shopify fees.

What to verify before live traffic

  • A normal card payment completes and creates exactly one paid Shopify order.
  • A failed payment does not create a paid Shopify order.
  • Your main shipping destinations quote the rates you expect.
  • Your most-used discount codes and currencies produce the right total.
  • Meta or TikTok purchase events arrive once, not twice.
  • Refund and support workflows are clear to whoever operates the store.

Do not treat a payment workaround as processor immunity.

Whop and Shopify keep their own rules, eligibility checks, reviews and payout processes. A separate checkout changes the payment path; it does not remove platform obligations.
