Before switching customers
Write down a safe baseline first. Record your working Shopify theme, current checkout behavior, key markets, active tracking setup and a recent successful order reference. Assign one person to make checkout-routing changes and another to validate the customer journey.
| Gate | Evidence to collect |
|---|---|
| Payment eligibility | Whop account status and product/country suitability; no approval assumptions. |
| Checkout amount | Matching product, variant, discounts, delivery, tax, currency and charged total. |
| Order creation | Exactly one matching paid Shopify order and a reliable recovery path. |
| Tracking | Meta/TikTok Purchase matches the confirmed payment and is not doubled. |
| Buyer devices | Mobile, desktop and relevant social-app browsers pass. |
| Backout readiness | Exact tested steps to restore the previous functioning checkout path. |
A practical four-stage launch
- Stage 1 — configure: connect Shopify and Whop, verify the installation, configure branding, markets and tracking without relying on untested settings.
- Stage 2 — test: use controlled permitted payments in test or staging, then any appropriate authorized live verification. Check card declines, challenge cancellation, wallets, shipping, discounts, currency and refunds.
- Stage 3 — introduce traffic: use the rollout controls actually available for your setup. Don't assume percentage-based A/B testing exists. If your installation switches all checkout traffic, do the full test first and keep support ready.
- Stage 4 — monitor: compare confirmed payment attempts, completed Whop payments and Shopify paid orders. Monitor buyer-facing errors and support tickets, not just a checkout page-load metric.
When to stop sending new buyers to the external checkout
- Customers cannot prepare or view a valid payment method for supported carts.
- Quoted shipping or charged totals disagree with Shopify data.
- Captured payments are repeatedly missing the matching paid Shopify order, or duplicates occur.
- Multiple customers report blank payment elements, non-recoverable authentication errors or a broken mobile flow.
Do not interpret one canceled card challenge as evidence of an outage; investigate patterns and authoritative payment states. Never re-charge an already paid customer during rollback.
Rollback steps for the storefront
- Stop promoting the new checkout path while investigating the failure.
- Using the verified installation instructions for your current Shopify theme, disable the active external checkout routing. Avoid indiscriminately deleting unrelated theme code.
- Confirm a cart now leads to the intended previous Shopify checkout and that the store's supported payment provider is active.
- Run a permitted end-to-end purchase or safe payment test in the restored flow, and check mobile too.
- Reconcile all payment sessions from before the switch; captured payments can still require Shopify order recovery after storefront routing is restored.
- Keep records of the issue, customer impact and fix before enabling the separate checkout again.
How this applies to Voss Checkout
Voss uses a Shopify storefront integration that sends customers to the separate Whop-connected checkout. Follow the installation and connection checks in the Voss onboarding flow for your store. The theme instructions and the current checkout path—not an assumed universal button—must guide a rollback.

Keep Shopify. Use your own Whop account for checkout.
Your storefront stays where it is. Customers pay through a branded checkout, and successful paid orders are sent back to Shopify for fulfillment.
Whop processing fees, eligibility checks and account rules still apply.
