WeTracked external checkout setup

How to connect WeTracked to a Shopify external checkout—and prove purchases are matched.

The part most setup guides skip: an external checkout must preserve the original Shopify cart token, create a matching Shopify order, and avoid sending the same Purchase conversion twice. Here is the exact Voss + Whop + WeTracked setup and verification sequence.

Can WeTracked track purchases through an external Shopify checkout?

Yes, when the checkout meets WeTracked's external-checkout requirements. In WeTracked, choose the External Checkout (3rd-Party) mode for the Shopify store. WeTracked requires the original Shopify cart token in the synced Shopify order's note_attributes, with the exact key shopify-cart-token. The field name is case sensitive and a newly generated checkout cart ID is not an equivalent substitute.

Voss preserves the original storefront Shopify cart token on eligible paid orders and syncs it through Shopify's order custom attributes, which appear under Additional details in Shopify Admin. The token is passed subject to a positive marketing-consent signal and its availability. Voss does not install a WeTracked pixel on its hosted checkout.

Before you start: what you need

  • An active Shopify store and working Voss checkout connected to an eligible Whop business.
  • WeTracked installed and configured for that same Shopify store, with your intended ad-channel destinations connected.
  • WeTracked checkout type set to External Checkout (3rd-Party). The setting applies to the Shopify store, including any orders that still use native checkout.
  • A real product and test payment you can verify in Shopify Admin. A failed payment or a visit to a thank-you URL is not a valid purchase test.
  • Marketing tracking consent in your test browser when applicable. Do not use private shoppers' cart tokens or click IDs in public screenshots or support messages.

Step-by-step: connect Voss Checkout to WeTracked

  1. Connect Shopify and Whop in Voss. In Voss setup, connect your Shopify store and permitted Whop business. Install the Shopify storefront checkout line, publish your checkout settings and verify that the correct storefront cart opens Voss.
  2. Set up WeTracked on Shopify. Follow WeTracked's Shopify app installation, tracking-consent requirements and ad destination configuration. Keep the installed WeTracked storefront integration; you do not need a second WeTracked script on the Voss checkout page.
  3. Choose External Checkout. In the WeTracked app (or Shopify Apps → wetracked.io Connect), find the store's checkout type and select External Checkout (3rd-Party). This is different from WeTracked's Funnelish funnel setup, which uses separate scripts and webhook steps.
  4. Choose the Purchase sender per platform. In Voss Dashboard → Tracking, open each Meta, TikTok or Google Ads integration that WeTracked also sends Purchases to. Enable WeTracked or another app sends Purchases for those destinations. Voss will retain its configured checkout-stage events while suppressing its own Purchase for that destination.
  5. Test the real journey. Open your Shopify storefront, add a product to cart, follow the normal Checkout button into Voss, pay and confirm that a Shopify paid order is created. Compare the order's original cart token with the storefront token and check a corresponding WeTracked Purchase.
  6. Inspect each ad platform. Use Meta Events Manager, TikTok Events Manager or Google Ads conversion diagnostics to see whether the intended event was received. Verify that one paid order didn't create two Purchase events for the same destination.

There is no separate WeTracked API key to paste into Voss. WeTracked configuration and ad-platform delivery remain managed inside WeTracked and the relevant ad platform.

Exactly what is shopify-cart-token?

Shopify's storefront Ajax cart has its own original token. WeTracked uses that identity to connect a Shopify storefront visit to the order later created through a third-party checkout. Voss reads the existing /cart.js response; it does not need an extra WeTracked HTTP request or a new pixel script on the payment page.

ValueCorrect or not?Why
shopify-cart-tokenRequired keyThe exact order note-attribute name documented by WeTracked.
Original Ajax Shopify cart tokenCorrect valueIt identifies the cart from the original storefront browser session.
A new Shopify Storefront API cart IDNot equivalentCreating a separate checkout cart does not preserve the identity WeTracked expects.
Voss checkout session ID or Whop payment IDNot equivalentThese are useful payment/order references but don't replace the original Shopify cart token.

In Shopify Admin, open the paid order → Additional details → look for shopify-cart-token. Merchant custom cart attributes are preserved separately, subject to platform and attribute limits. Do not copy a private cart token into a public page: even if it looks like an opaque tracking ID, treat the value as sensitive order context.

Meta, TikTok and Google Ads: which tool should track what?

The most common attribution mistake is enabling two independent Purchase senders for the same destination. The events often have different IDs, so an ad platform may count both. Configure exactly one Purchase owner for each destination.

Important: A WeTracked External Checkout dashboard showing no Initiated Checkouts does not by itself prove your Voss checkout-start tracking is broken. Voss and WeTracked can report different stages in different dashboards. WeTracked's Funnelish-specific Initiate Checkout implementation is not the same as the Shopify cart-token integration.

The five checks before you move paid traffic

  1. Storefront cart: add the product and verify the right cart and Shopify domain. If inspecting /cart.js, do so in the same browser session as the test checkout.
  2. Successful payment: follow the storefront checkout button, complete the Whop payment and ensure Shopify shows a paid synced order. Failed, declined and abandoned checkouts must not generate a paid Purchase.
  3. Exact cart token: in the new Shopify order's Additional details, find shopify-cart-token and compare it with the original storefront cart token. Do not compare it to a Voss or Storefront API checkout ID.
  4. WeTracked Purchase: check that WeTracked shows the corresponding purchase and amount. A matching Shopify order is necessary for the bridge, but it does not alone confirm WeTracked accepted or attributed the order.
  5. Ad platform receipt: verify the relevant Purchase conversion arrives once, with correct value/currency, in Meta, TikTok or Google Ads. Campaign attribution can differ due to consent, ad-click information and reporting rules.

Troubleshooting: cart token, missing conversions and duplicates

There is no shopify-cart-token on the order

First confirm the order was placed after your Voss WeTracked-compatible release, the shopper opened checkout from the original Shopify storefront, and the shopper's marketing choice allowed attribution. Check that you are viewing the paid Voss-synced order, not an older test or native Shopify order. If the order is paid and consented but the token is still missing, contact Voss support with the Shopify order number—not the private raw cart token.

Shopify shows the token, but WeTracked shows no Purchase

Confirm WeTracked is connected to the same Shopify store, its checkout type is External Checkout, and the purchase appears in the correct store/date range. Check WeTracked's integration status and the ad destination connection. If the Shopify token matches but reporting is missing, this is a different issue from Voss order synchronization.

Two Purchase events appear in Meta, TikTok or Google Ads

Look for overlapping Purchase senders: WeTracked, Voss, a Shopify app, a GTM tag or a separate checkout tool. In Voss Tracking, enable WeTracked or another app sends Purchases on each destination WeTracked owns. Ensure older pixel scripts or GTM tags are not sending their own Purchase for the same transaction. Do not disable your checkout-start tracking by mistake.

Voss InitiateCheckout is missing

The matching shopify-cart-token field only handles order attribution. For checkout-start events, connect and configure the Meta/TikTok pixel or Google Ads Begin Checkout action in Voss. Test the actual checkout opening and the applicable consent state; check the ad-platform event tool, not only WeTracked's dashboard.

WeTracked reports an unpaid order from native Shopify checkout

Review the store-wide checkout type. WeTracked's official documentation says Native Checkout tracks paid order events, while External Checkout listens to order creation, including orders with pending/authorized states. If your store mixes native and external checkout, confirm the implications in WeTracked before switching the setting.

FAQs about external checkout conversion tracking

Is WeTracked officially integrated with Voss?

Voss supports WeTracked's documented Shopify external-checkout cart-token contract. That is technical compatibility, not a claim that Voss is a certified or listed WeTracked partner.

Does Voss transmit raw UTM parameters, fbclid, fbc and fbp to WeTracked?

Voss can capture supported attribution information subject to consent for its own tracking and sessions, but that does not mean every identifier is transmitted to WeTracked. The documented cross-system link is the original Shopify cart token placed on the Shopify order.

Do I need a separate script or webhook on Voss Checkout?

No. In Voss's Shopify external-checkout approach, the original cart token on the Shopify order is the matching mechanism. Follow WeTracked's Shopify installation; don't copy Funnelish-only tracking scripts into Voss.

Can I use WeTracked without switching off every Voss pixel?

Yes. Choose which tool sends Purchases on each platform, and keep Voss checkout-stage events if needed. Keep existing stored pixel IDs and credentials; the opt-out applies to the Purchase event, not to removing your configured integration.

Does the 14-day trial change Voss fees?

No. WeTracked's subscription is separate from Voss's $0 monthly software fee and 0.5% per successfully processed order. Whop processing fees and Shopify charges are also separate. See Voss pricing.
